Eaze Momentum is a cannabis business accelerator designed to support under-represented founders. In this interview series, the members of our 2022 cohort share some of the most valuable lessons they’ve learned as founders.
After being sentenced to 87 months in prison for unjust cannabis charges, Oakland native, entrepreneur and advocate Evelyn LaChapelle established the brand 87 in homage to her experience in prison as well as the future she’s creating in cannabis. Like its founder, 87 is bigger than cannabis. With Evelyn’s voice and story at the heart of the brand’s foundation, 87 serves as both a curated and collaborative product line and lifestyle platform that celebrates and reflects her community. Its launch begins with a luxe collection of branded essentials to celebrate and normalize the ritual of cannabis consumption, while advocating for women who have also been negatively impacted by the criminal justice system.
What is the most valuable takeaway you’ve gotten from the Momentum program? To tap in with human resources. There can be so much value in just having a conversation and asking the right questions.
