When it comes to the world of concentrates, Jetty Extracts and Oakland Extracts have always been close friends. With a shared appreciation for cannabis and staying as true to the plant as possible, these titans of the extract industry have launched into a partnership that has allowed Oakland Extracts to expand beyond the Bay Area and bring their “Terps from the Town” to the rest of California.
Jetty Extracts, which was founded back in 2013, was one of the first cannabis businesses to dive into extracts. They’ve been leading the way since, and were among the first to remove all additives from their products. Their mission is to stay true to the plant, with an emphasis on terpene and cannabinoid preservation.
Oakland Extracts, a Black-owned business, began as a way to bring the community together. Founder Terryn Niles Buxton saw prices climbing with legalization and realized there was a need for people in Oakland to have access to quality cannabis at an affordable price.
Sourcing their materials from local farms, Oakland Extracts has fine-tuned a proprietary technique that allows for maximum terpene retention. Their signature Cookie Crumble wax focuses on natural flavor and high potency, much like the rest of their products.
Jetty and Oakland Extracts have been friends since the “215 days,” before cannabis was fully legalized in California. Both based in Oakland at the time, they shared a common passion for making high-quality extracts, all while having to navigate the risky, ever-changing cannabis landscape in a semi-legal climate–especially for a Black-owned business.
While Jetty continued to develop its products and hone in on plant preservation, Oakland Extracts was becoming a fixture in Bay Area clubs due to the quality of the product and the brand’s tight relationships with budtenders and the community alike.
As soon as Prop. 64 passed, both brands were faced with readying themselves for a fully legal market: obtaining licenses, and becoming fully compliant with state laws. Many businesses didn’t have the resources to make it through this grueling and financially-draining process, including Oakland Extracts. Black-owned businesses faced the added challenge of their limited access to capital, among a host of other social inequities and racism within the cannabis industry.
Eventually, Oakland and Jetty Extracts partnered up and began working with each other to get Oakland Extracts back on the market. The brand relaunched in the spring of 2020, producing all of its concentrates in the Jetty lab.

“Just sharing space and knowledge with the Jetty team has been a great collaboration, but we are partnering with many local small farms, to give the consumer single-source, high-quality extracts at a great price,” Niles said. “Our first official collaboration was with GoldSealSF and their unique strain, Red Congo, and we have many other collaborations in the works. Oakland Extracts prides itself on working with small, local farmers, to bring our community the finest products made by our neighbors.”
