Whether you’re getting together with your immediate family or having a quiet night in with Love Actually, there are many different ways to celebrate Thanksgiving, especially during a year that forces us to be innovative at every turn.
The holidays tend to bring out the excess in all of us, so here are a few tips to ensure that your Thanksgiving cannabis consumption is healthy, responsible, and a good time:
- Pace your edible consumption: Start low, go slow. For many (especially those who plan to be around family members who don’t necessarily condone smoking), the simplest solution to achieving your Thanksgiving buzz lies in bringing a discrete edible (like Emerald Sky’s daytime pick-me-up gummies), but this could easily go one of two ways if you aren’t careful. Be aware of your limit, and make sure to wait at least an hour and a half before consuming more of the edible. The goal is to be hungry enough to thoroughly enjoy your turkey dinner.
- Opt for a vape pen for discretion and portion control. Prefer smoking but unwilling to roll a joint or have to lug around your pipe, grinder, lighter, and flower? Bring along a vape pen instead–they’re discrete, easy to use, and ideal for portion control. But if you catch yourself mindlessly puffing on your pen until you’re blitzed, try dosist’s dose controller to make sure you’re staying within your tolerance limit.
- Whatever you do, don’t puff puff pass! It’s exciting to finally reach the age where you and your siblings and/or cousins have traded in toy trucks and dolls for blunts and beers, but with the covid pandemic still very much alive, this is the year to practice extra caution. Rather than rolling up a joint for the whole gang, bring along one of Island’s mini pre-roll 5-packs–perfect for a smoke session with little to no risk of getting each other sick.
- Stay alert before hitting the road. Between your possible cannabis-induced slump and the inherent grogginess that comes from a massive turkey dinner, you might be quite out of it by the end of the evening. If you have a drive ahead of you, it’s likely in your best interest to arrange a ride home instead (or sleep over if possible). Cannabis consumption can affect your motor skills, and it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Even if you feel sober enough to drive, don’t.
- Monitor your alcohol consumption with care. Most holidays go hand in hand with a seasonal cocktail, but if you’re also planning on consuming cannabis, proceed with caution. The two mixed together can amplify the respective effects, so make sure to arrange a ride home–or spend the night if possible.
Happy consuming!
